I'm Sam Lowery, a retail professional and Master’s student in Fashion Management at Parsons School of Design. I combine hands-on industry experience with academic research in sustainability, transparency, and the role of technology in modern retail. With a background in Economics and Fashion Management, I approach retail with a strategic and analytical mindset, always focused on how businesses can evolve to meet consumer expectations, improve operational efficiency, and build corporate responsibility.
Currently, I’m an Area Sales Manager at Dillard’s, where I oversee department performance, drive sales growth, and lead a team of associates to optimize the customer experience and overall business outcomes. I’m responsible for training, visual merchandising, and ensuring that sales strategies align with company goals. My experience spans multiple retail formats, from big-box retail (Dillard’s) and industry disruptors (Rent the Runway, Bonobos) to sustainable brands (Faherty), giving me a well-rounded understanding of both the challenges and the opportunities within the fashion industry.
I’m also a fashion writer, covering New York Fashion Week, ethical fashion case studies, and broader industry trends. My writing offers thoughtful analysis on topics like sustainability claims, female leadership, DEI efforts, and the intersection of business and creativity. I love exploring how AI, blockchain, and supply chain transparency can create a more equitable and sustainable fashion ecosystem — always with the goal of making innovation accessible and empowering readers to think critically about the future of fashion. My writing voice tends to be girly, ironic, and witty, making complex topics like fashion tech, NFTs, and sustainability approachable and engaging.
As I look toward the next step in my career, I’m focused on transitioning into consulting within the fashion sector. I’m continuously expanding my expertise in retail strategy, sustainability, and technological innovation to build a future where fashion is both creative and responsible.
